Smooth Jazz Concert featuring Pieces Of A Dream, Jessy J, Gregg Karukas, Althea Rene and Sekou Bunch. Come out one more and spend a day with some of the top names in the smooth jazz genre. Additionally, in our festival atmosphere, there will be plenty of vendors on hand with many products to offer.

Artist Performance Schedule – 9/18/10 Doors Open @ 1:00 pm
2:00p – 3:10p (1) Sekou Bunch

Sekou’s new CD “The Next Level” could be characterized as a “musical ricochet” or a re-conquest of sorts. In fact, it is a reclamation project dedicated to reclaiming the preeminence of African American musicians at the forefront of contemporary music. Sekou is seeking to put the emphasis back on the music and musicians with “The Next Level.”

3:40p – 4:50p (2) Althea Rene

Althea Rene has worked more than 10 years as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff (Detroit, Michigan).  Today, Ms. René is a full-time performing artist and is regarded among musicians and enthusiasts as one of the nations most exciting solo improvisational flautists.  Although ‘In The Moment’ emphasizes Ms. Rene’s exceptional skill, soul, and artistic versatility; her live concerts better showcase her huge talent.

5:20p – 6:30p (3) Gregg Karukas

Gregg Karukas feels lucky to work with singers and musicians whom he feels a magical musical rapport with. "People say my music sounds romantic and uplifting - and I look so happy on stage, he says. It's totally true. For me, the best music comes out of an inner feeling of either intense happiness or sadness. I always try to stay faithful to that original inspiration, because that is where the true sound of emotion' comes from.

7:00p – 8:10p (4) Jessy J

"Few musicians, no matter the musical genre, have made as powerful of an immediate impact as this talented multi-instrumentalist and composer."  With her sizzling mix of hot beats, Latin and samba rhythms, instantly captivating melodies, and model looks, this Mexican American saxophonist/singer proved quite the sensation with her debut CD Tequila Moon, earning her such accolades as Radio and Records “Debut Artist of The Year”

8:40p – 10:10p (5) Pieces Of A Dream (Headliner)

While there’s no denying the consistently high caliber of music generated by Pieces of A Dream over the course of their lengthy career, Soul Intent may be the most direct, back-to-basics experience of this enduring jazz combo in many years. “For this CD, the songs were recorded as the writers had originally intended them to be,” says Harmon. “They weren’t reworked and rearranged from their original intent and turned into something else. The intent is clear: a little bit of soul, delivered the old-fashioned way.
