These works of art, lost for over 50 years were r ecovered several years ago in remarkable condition. The 180 illustrations for six filmstrips produced for Encyclopedia Britannica's Filmstrip Divisio n had been the product of a two year-long commission in 1964 by the late a rtist, Bronislaw Bak. \nThey include the classic tales of” Sir Gawain and t he Green Knight," "Morte d'Arthur," "Beowulf," "The Nun's Priest Tale," "Th e Second Shepherd's Play" and "Everyman." These 180 original relief prints, hand colored by the artist have never been printed except as slide filmstr ips for schools. The filmstrips as well as the projectors (one of which wil l be on display in the exhibit) have long since been replaced by modern dig ital teaching aids.\nThis is a first edition using the printing methods tha t serve as learning experience in the art of book publication while preserv ing this original archival work along with a full translation of the Beowul f Saga. As part of the exhibit, a full size antique book printing press wil l be featured in exhibit and and will be used to demonstrate the method of hand printing.
